Default Need Help: Resetting Character back to Lvl 1?

O.k. here's my situation... I'd like to know if what I am doing is in any way wrongful or can't be done:
I just recently got back into Guild Wars and I have a W/Mo that I developed a long time ago haven't touched in close to a year. After playing with him for the past few days I find myself simply wanting to "reset" him to level 1 and move through the quests one game/ expansion at a time. My hope is that I can keep my name and gear that is customized though. So when I reach level 20 I can re-equip my W/Mo with his previous setup and get going as I was but with a much less cluttered and unorganized Quest Log. My main objective in doing this, is that I want to save my name and gear but I want to play through the game again and attempt to do ALL of the submissions.

Here's what I was thinking about doing and need input on:
Is it possible to create another W/Mo with say the name "Secondary War"
Work him up to level 20
Open my first W/Mo named "Original War"
Strip him of all customized gear and put in storage
Delete "Original War"
Perform a name change on "Secondary War"
Which I would then name "Original War" where I could then re-equip

As I said: It's been awhile since I've played the game and since GW2 is (hopefully) going to be released within this year I would just like to play through the games again, try to complete them 150% through but be able to re-equip my guy upon reaching level 20.

I'm sorry, but you won't be able to keep your gear. You can of course delete your warrior/change his name and recreate him with the same name right away, but the customization is not locked to the name itself but to some code unique to that character. (Someone tested it, I believe.)

However if you're interested in the Hall of Monuments' rewards for GW2 I'd suggest to not delete your warrior since he'll get birthday presents (minipets) which can be dedicated and will give you HoM points. Or you could just sell them for money to other players. (The price varies depending on the minipet, usually from 5 platinum to over 100 platinum for the rarer ones. There are also some miniatures that are even more expensive than that.)

Yes, you should keep the old one, even if you don??t want to play him for real. Create a new one with the same look and a similar name (Secondary Fighter or Secondary Warr...just close to the original name whatever it is)
This will be as close as possible to resetting your warrior and can give you a feel of still playing the original one.
I can confirm, that it is indeed possible to delete your char and make a new with the same name, your name will stay reserved for you for a short time. But his armor and customised weapons cannot be recycled for a new char.
Keep the old one and harvest birthday gifts from him

If I were you, I'd just delete the character and recreate another with the same name. Make sure you first place your valuables into the storage vault, of course.

The only reason to hang on to the old one, as was mentioned, is the birthday presents. And if the character is only a year or two old right now, those gifts aren't gonna be worth the trouble. The really pricey ones come from characters that are turning 5 (soon to be 6) because obviously there aren't as many of those.

I'm going to chime in against this suggestion. I can't recall coming across anyone who said, "Boy, am I glad I deleted my old character(s)." I have, however, come across plenty who facepalmed over deleting. You lose out on minipets. If you want to unlock an endgame skill for your heroes, and you delete the one character that's been really far in the campaigns, you'll have to use Balthazar faction instead. Forget Nick gifts. How long do you want to wait to try War in Kryta?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to start fresh and see the game with new eyes. That's what your other character slots are for. Make a brother for your warrior (surely there are other, maybe similar names you also like), or try one of the other classes. Maybe start in a different campaign? The starting area quests are different in each. Variety is the spice of life -- embrace it!

Gear is character specific. Even if you rename your second warrior to the same name, the armor will not work on it. Weapons will if it isn't customized. But if it is, same thing happens. You may as well either sell everything, delete and redo it. But I will not advice it. You may instead want to just create a new warrior and work with that.

As has been said, you can delete the character and create a new one with the same name, but it won't actually be the same 'character' and can't use the old gear.

My suggestion would be to forget the idea of redoing the character, but instead, since getting to level 20 is not a big deal, to simply take that character back to the beginning and start again. (Of course, you won't be able to re-do pre-searing).

Or, conversely, start a brand new character of a different class - say, an Elementalist - and once you get the new character up to where the old character was, you can then play both characters.

As its been said you cannot equip any customised gear to another char even if u have gear in storage as, the name gets a code *1 and when you make a new char of same name it becomes *2 if u follow.

check how close to a year old it is by /age then if not long to go hold onto it and receive a birthday present first then delete if you are so inclined.

But really I would leave it as is and with the new survivor been implemented you can go for it but, looking at your post its the gear you wish so im afraid this cannot be done.

I take it you have 8 slots so if you wanted make another warrior and add an X in front and at end of name then delete your old one when its a year old since you wish to start afresh with a new warrior

Hey thanks everyone... I had a feeling that the gear wouldn't be able to transfer over and now since I think about it, it kind of stupid to suspect that they could especially since it would really only be saving me some GW cash.

I will do what you have all suggested: keep the Warrior and simple making a new one that has a similar name... I wish ArenaNet would make it possible to "reset" your previous quest history. I remember abandoning a lot of secondary quests which I regret doing now.

Anyways, thanks for all of your input I just wanted to make sure that what I was going to attempt wasn't like a fraudulent or something.

If you abandon a quest, you can retake it (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Quests). However, if you move on and gain levels, it will probably be too easy if you return to complete it. My problem is that I don't remember if I took this quest or that quest on this character or that character.
